Sault Youth Soccer Club and League
Pre-Civics winter training program 2014- 2015
for U10 and U11 players (born in 2003-2004)

Winter schedules posted: U10 Girls and Boys (born in 2004), U11 Girls and Boys (born in 2003)

Dear parents of girls and boys born in 2003-2004!

The Sault Youth Soccer Club invites your child to participate in the pre-Civics winter training program 2014-2015. The program objective is to train all players who wish to improve their basic physical literacy, develop strong skill foundation, and have fun.

Key features of the program:

  • The program is open to all players born in 2003-2004 who were registered with the Sault Youth Soccer Club for the summer of 2014. There is no selection process to participate in the program: every child deserves the opportunity to develop as a soccer player!
  • Program training sessions will be held every Wednesday at Northern Community Centre (indoor soccer facility at 556 Goulais Avenue) beginning in November 2014. Check the detailed schedules below
  • Training sessions will be conducted by qualified coaches with solid playing background and experience with coaching competitive youth soccer teams
  • The registration fee to participate in winter training is $250 per player. The fee is needed to cover the cost of renting field time and the Northern Community Centre and is based on a projected number of participants. If the actual number of participants exceeds the projected number, the fee will be re-calculated and refunds issued for the excessive amount of registration fee
  • No pre-registration is required! Bring the registration fee to the first training session and participate!
  • Players involved in training will have the opportunity to participate in a soccer tournament in Petoskey (June 19-21, 2015). Participation in the tournament will be based solely on commitment to training, attendance record, and work ethic, not on raw athletic ability!

About the program
The pre-Civics training program is aligned with the Long Term Player Development model introduced by the Ontario Soccer Association and its main focus is on developing skills to let your child enjoy the game of soccer for years to come whether she (he) chooses to play for competitive or recreational teams.

The program was launched in the summer of 2013 and was hugely successful. The total of 67 girls and boys born in 2003 participated in weekly training sessions. At the end of 2013 outdoor season, three teams (two girls' teams and one boys' team) attended a soccer tournament in Traverse City, Michigan. The teams were formed of all players interested in gaining tournament experience: there was no selection of players, every participant of the pre-Civics training program was welcome to attend the tournament. All three teams performed very well, players had a lot of fun and got a taste of soccer tournament atmosphere

The pre-Civics training continued throughout 2013-2014 indoor season at the Northern Community Centre. The cost of training was kept to a minimum: $150 per player for 18 training sessions. The indoor training concluded with two teams (one girls' team and one boys' team) attending a soccer tournament in Petoskey, Michigan, in June 2014.

In the summer 2015, the program was expanded to include two age groups: players born in 2003 and 2004 (girls and boys). The total of 130 girls and boys born participated in weekly training sessions run by qualified coaches. The summer training concluded with 6 teams attending tournaments in Michigan. Girls (two teams) and boys (one team) born in 2003 attended Petoskey Autumn Blast Tournament while players born in 2004 (two girls' teams and one boys' team) attended Traverse City Autumn Classic tournament. As in 2013, there was no selection of players: every participant of the pre-Civics training program was welcome to attend the tournament. And again, all teams performed well, and both players and parents had a blast!
