Sault Youth Soccer Club and League Important information for parents of U9-U12 girls and boys
The Sault Youth Soccer Club has received a number of enquiries from the parents concerned that soccer season for U9-U12 girls and boys (girls and boys born in 2002-2005) will not include any games but will consist of only practices. This is incorrect! The soccer season for U9-U12 girls and boys will be formatted as usual! Players will be placed on teams who will play games against each other and compete for regular season and playoff championships!
The misconception about having no games likely comes from the Long Term Player Development (LTPD) concept introduced by the Ontario Soccer Association. The LTPD model places more focus on practicing and developing skills. It does not prevent players from playing games but rather discourages clubs and leagues from keeping scores and standings to let players enjoy the games in a pressure-free atmosphere.
However, upon evaluating the LTPD concept, the Sault Youth Soccer Club has decided to implement it gradually by phasing it in over the next 5 years. It will have no effect on U9-U12 players during 2014 season! These players will have a soccer season that includes all well familiar elements: pre-draft games, regular season games, mid-season tournament and playoffs!
Please register your kids and come out to watch them play games as usual!
